CONCEPT
Located in Ryusen, Tokyo, this compact hotel renovation responds directly to the limitations of the existing building. Rather than concealing these conditions, the design uses them to establish a simple and honest spatial character.
Exposed ceilings preserve as much room height as possible, while lauan plywood, continuous flooring and restrained finishes introduce warmth and visual continuity. Each element is reduced to what is necessary, allowing the compact guest rooms to feel calm, efficient and coherent.
The project seeks to create a quiet place of rest—one that carefully responds to the existing structure while giving new value to an ordinary urban building.
